"I have always loved the land." Born and raised in Los Alamos, New Mexico, I spent much of my childhood riding my horse and exploring all over the mesas and canyons near my home. Later I pursued a career in land conservation as a soil scientist. I loved my work, but it did not satisfy my need to express my deep feelings about the land. Finally, through watercolor painting, I've found my way. I prefer to paint, en plein aire out of doors, immersed in the landscape I love. When I see it, I paint through my feelings for it. Watercolor is both the most difficult and the most exhilarating part of my life!" Carol makes her home in Santa Cruz, New Mexico, where she grooms dogs, volunteers at the Wildlife Center, owns and operates a trailer park, cares for three acres of bosque (river woodland) and orchard - and paints and paints and paints. After she received dual degrees in Agronomy and Anthropology, she worked as a soil conservationist for the federal government. It was in this capacity that she began to hike the remote backcountry areas that still fuel her passion for the land and native species of the high desert. A lifetime of looking and seeing have been Carol's primary teachers. Since 1995 she has studied with acclaimed artist and teacher, Jan Hart. Artist Lucette White of Boston has also greatly influenced her.
